We've
tried many ribbon tying techniques, but this one
wins hands down for simplicity and yields amazing
results. For
extra effect, use two different colors of ribbon for your accordion-stack, or
once you have finished the bow curl some
differently colored strands underneath and around. |

Turn the wrapped gift
upside down, and wrap
the ribbon underneath the long
side of the
package first. Cross the ends once, and wrap
the ribbon taut back up the other sides to the top
of
the package. |
|
Tie a knot in the center,
leaving at least 6-inch
tails. Don't worry about how this knot looks -
it will
be covered up by the bow. Cutting the
ribbon tails with a slant edge or inverted-V looks
best. |

Cut a long pice
of ribbon (approximately 6-8 feet,
depending on the
bow size you want to end up
with). Fold the ribbon
in half and hold it, pinched,
in the middle with the loose ends hanging down.
|
|
Begin to fold the ribbon
accordion-style, making
sure the ribbons stay lined up evenly on top of
each other. |

Continue folding the
accordion, pinching in the
middle, until you have four or five loops on each
side. The loops should be in diminishing size as
you reach the top of the stack. |
|
Make small diagonal cuts
(1/4" inch or so) into
both sides of your accordion-stack of ribbon,
making certain you keep the stack pinched and
held together neatly. |

Place your accordion-stack
on top of the knot
that you tied in step 2, holding the stack flat
against
the package. Tie the tails you left out in
step 2 to into the diagonal cuts you made on your
stack and make a knot. |
|
Separate the loops of
the bow by pulling them in
opposite directions; the diagonal cuts should
allow you to freely fluff the bow all the way
around. |
